1. A young couple are talking during dinner.
H: Where do you want to go after dinner tonight?
W: I'd like to take a walk along the waterfront.
H: That is a good idea. Do you want me to bring the camera?
W: O.K., but I don t want you to take any pictures of me. My hair looks terrible today.
H: O.K. I promise I won't.
2. A college student Is talking with his uncle.
U: So, tell me, Emil. What do you hope to do after you graduate?
CS: Well, I'm hoping to find a job in a small, progressive electronics company. But I also hope that it doesn't start until next September. I'd like to have the summer free, if I can.
U: That sounds nice. I hope that everything works out O.K. for you.
CS: Yeah. I hope so, too.
3. Two neighbors are talking during a garage sale.
N1: How many people do you hope come to your sale today?
N2: Well, I'm hoping that at least twenty-five or thirty people do. I wish that it didn t look like rain, though. If it begins to rain, people won't come.
N1: Yeah. I wish it were nicer today, too. I'd go to the beach if it were sunny, but now I can't decide what to do . . .

Think about what you would probably do in the following situations.
1. Itis a rainy Sunday afternoon, and you are at a friend's place. You're both dissatisfied with your life, and you're talking about what you want to do instead.
2. You're a student, and you're talking with the job counselor at your school. The counselor asks you about what you want and hope to do in the future.
3. You're on a long camping trip and you're writing a letter to your boy/girlfriend at home.
